Some harms are easy to see

For generations, Black communities have been asked to live with losses that were never fully acknowledged, harms that were never fully addressed, and systems that were never fully repaired.

Some of those harms are easy to see.

Others have settled into the background of everyday life.

They live in neighborhoods that no longer look the same.

In opportunities that never reached the people who needed them most.

In silences that were passed down without explanation.

In the ways people learned to adapt to conditions they did not create.

02
Others have settled into the background

We often talk about harm as something that happened.

Something behind us.

Something completed.

But harm does not disappear simply because time passes.

When accountability never arrives, harm changes shape.

It becomes inheritance.

It becomes expectation.

It becomes policy.

It becomes geography.

It becomes the distance between what was possible and what became reality.

03
When accountability never arrives

This archive begins with a different question.

Not whether harm happened.

Not whether people survived.

But what communities continue to carry when repair never comes.

Through stories, reflections, audio, artwork, and public memory, Plain Sight explores what was taken, what remained, what was never repaired, and what repair would require now.

Some harms remain visible.
Others remain hidden in plain sight.

This archive is organized
as a series of rooms

Each room explores a different part of the relationship between harm and repair. Some stories come from invited contributors. Others come from members of the public who chose to leave a reflection within the archive. Together, these voices help document what people continue to carry long after the original harm itself.

The archive is not intended to provide a complete history. It is intended to create space for witnessing — to pay attention to what remains.
